August 2019

August 12 - 17th
THE 2019 ADIRONDACK PLEIN AIR FESTIVAL IS STARTING ON AUG 12!
Saranac Lake and nearby areas
The Adirondack region has long been known as a wonderful, wild vacation retreat and the inspiration for numerous artists, writers and musicians. The artists who come and take part in the Adirondack Plein Air Festival know that very well, which is what attracts them from all over the country. It's the largest wilderness east of the Mississippi, yet within an easy days drive of the major cities of the northeast. There are mountains, lakes, rivers, bogs, forests, farms, and small communities - a full variety of subject matter for artists. Ninety artists submitted applications and 50 were selected to participate. The Adirondack Plein Air Festival involves 4 1/2 days of painting and then a huge Show & Sale that could very well have 500 fresh, wet paintings that were created during the event. Spectators are encouraged to come watch the creative process as well as to enjoy the Adirondack environment themselves.

The Wall Street Journal called it 'glorious' and the New York Times said it was 'stunning' . This new kind of museum, spread over 31 acres, is an Adirondack 'must see' according to USA Today. Designed by the firm that created Washington DC's Air and Space Museum, the Center features live exhibits, including splashing river otters, a wide screen theater and tons of hands on exhibits.
